It’s been a long time coming! This past Saturday, August 16, 2014, state and local city offials and the general public were present to celebrate the Loop 303/Interstate 10 interchange completion. Although officials with the Arizona Department of Transportation said the Loop 303 interchange would not be open for a few more weeks, a porion of it opened Sunday.
The ramp leading south on Loop 303 connecting to eastbound Interstate 10 and the ramp for the eastbound I-10 leading north on Loop 303 are currently open. The ramps leading south on Loop 303 to westbound I-10 and westbound I-10 leading north on Loop 303 will not be open until September, according to an ADOT press release.
Construction of the interchange began November 2011 at a cost of $145 million. Total cost of the Loop 303 Corridor is projected at $1.8 billion which expanded the existing, dangerous two-lane highway into a six-lane freeway. The Loop 303 will link the Interstate 10 (around Goodyear) and Interstate 17 (just South of the Carefree Highway 74) through a modern 35-mile freeway corridor, providing efficient mobility for the growing West and Northwest Valley. The new freeway will not only provide more direct access to the northwestern part of the Valley of the Sun, but it will also drive business. The majority of state and local officials agree that the project is more than just a freeway expansion to the growing communities in the West Valley. The Loop 303 Corridor will help to expand commerce and easing travel throughout the region. West Valley officials have already seen more business development while the freeway has been under construction. The new route will help boost trade and job growth and amazing development opportunities.
The Loop 303 improvement project consists of several phases of construction, beginning and ending at different times during the next several years. As a result, the public should expect upcoming construction zones on Loop 303 as noted:
Loop 303 / I-10 Traffic Interchange: December 2011 to fall 2014
Loop 303 / US 60 (Grand Avenue) Interchange: Construction scheduled to begin late 2014
El Mirage Traffic Interchange: Construction scheduled to begin early 2015
